The Valley Thunder Lacrosse annual Apple Cup is the largest club/ house box lacrosse tournament in Atlantic Canada, played out of the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick and the Credit Union Centre in Kingston. 2025 will be the 10th annual, and we invite teams to register, come and play, and - most importantly - have fun!
3 Game Minimum, Friday - Sunday.
Apple Cup Registration Rules 2025
This is a club (Level B) tournament. Rosters will be reviewed as teams register, and again as teams check in at the tournament. Teams affected by review may remove ineligible athletes and continue, or withdraw (with no refund). Opponent of the withdrawn team will record a win.
Review factors include:
Unaltered rosters from RAMP / official roster from Club-level Executive outside NS
All-female teams will play in their age group
Female athleteson co-ed/open teams can be from all skill backgrounds (club/house, select or provincial) and do not count towards Comp-4 (see below)
All Female teams must adhere to the Comp-4 rule
Comp-4 - Each team may ONLY dress four athletes per game (player or goalie) whose names appear on a Competitive roster (Select, Club Level A, Canada Games /provincial team draft (as of May 15) or ECJLL AP list). *No ECJLL rostered athletes*
* Teams with more than four select or higher players can attend but only four may dress per game and must be identified on gamesheet.
The organizing committee reserves the right to remove a player, coach, parent, team, or official if necessary.
Round Robin
One hour per game is scheduled. That hour includes
3 minute warm up,
1 minute intermissions
All U11, U13, U15 & U17 games are 12-12-12 minute periods, stop time
Game will end at 60 minute mark regardless of time remaining
CLA rules regarding penalties.
Standings determined as follows (U11 and older)
Most points (2 for win, 1 for tie, 0 loss)
Most wins
Fewest penalty minutes
Quickest goal in first game of the tournament
Coin flip
Rules regarding standings prevent teams from running up the score. Goals for and against are not determining factors.
Play-off games (Semi and Final)
Add 5 minutes of overtime as needed (use the full 5 minutes)
Shoot out if still tied: 3 players selected, total goals.
If still tied, sudden death shootout, Home team starts. All players must be used before players can re-attempt. If 1 team has fewer players, once that team exhausts all players and must re-use a player, the opposing team may also commence re-using their players, even if all their players have not yet completed.
